Citrix Summit first day..
So.. i am attending the Citrix Summit this week. Citrix Summit is an NDA Partner event. Due to the NDA situation there is not a whole lot to blog about when it comes to the features, technologies and roadmaps.
However i will try to summarize what we hear at the level we can legally do without getting anyone in trouble
Today i noted 3 main topics that i thought was worth mentioning. And it is not to say the other sessions wasnt useful, but again, i guess we could share it but we would have to kill you?
1. Citrix Profile Manager, comes from the purchase of a company called Sepago. Citrix Profile manager is going to aid us all in the battle with profiles. Citrix Profile manager is going to add extra functionality in comparison with the Roaming profiles that many use. Citrix profile manager compares more to FlexProfileKit from Login Consultants than with Roaming profiles as we know it. Tim Mangan wrote today on his blog that the tech preview of this solution has been made public, you can check more here: http://www.citrix.com/site/jumpPage.asp?pageID=1453077
2. Citrix App Reciever, its been a while since i heard the term reciever used about clients for the first time. And since then alot has happend. It always made sense to me that Citrix would want to make it easier to manage all their many clients. And App Reciever is going to be one of the cures for this. To describe App Reciever in an easy way, without stepping on too many toes… App Reciever is a framework to support automatic provisioning of the clients needed by the user, with central distribution, central management and centrally controlled update lifecycles for the plugins. I think this will help to make the adoption of new client versions alot easier and hopefully having an updated client base will give Citrix users an even better experience. I am truly looking forward to hear more about this product and be able to share more about it as well. But i think i think it is safe to say that this will help all Citrix customers
3. ICA Optimization using WANScaler technology. Ever since Citrix bought the WANScaler product from Orbital, rumors have been roaming the halls about when Citrix would launch an optimization of the ICA protocol. Fact is that this task is not as easy at it would seem, as ICA is pretty much as optimized as it can be. However, it seems Citrix is pretty close, i have been hearing and seeing alot about this new feature, but the specifics are still under NDA, but i can assure you all that it is coming and i will try to keep this blog updated when more information comes available. I heard about the techniques and possibilities today, so i am extremely excited, and looking forward to share
I will try to keep updated when more information becomes available, hopefully tomorrow at the opening keynote.
On a side note i had the chance to talk to Alex the man behind Ishadow, Ishadow2go and VDM. He seems to be awfully busy and have alot of cool stuff on the way, i will ofcourse try to keep up with him. You can see more about VDM at my earlier post here.
Also spoke to Rich and alot of the PVS guys at the Tech Labs, i will try to do an update on whats new with PVS 5.0 and 5.0 sp1 at a later time.
Also, i will put out a XenServer update information post soon.
thats all for today..
