Citrix Summit GeekSpeak, "Mark T. for President!"
So it was Summit second day. Alot of the usual sessions and content, but i was truly looking forward to the GeekSpeak, i heard alot about it from when it was held first time at the Citrix Synergy earlier this year.
So GeekSpeak started out with a great debate on TS vs. VDI lead by Rick Dehlinger, sadly we got a bit short on time when it came to the Q&A section of the debate. But i think it was great to hear of some of the implementations going on at the moment and the outcome of these implementations and Proof of Concepts.
Rick told me he would be going to Pubforum Nice next week, so i will be looking forward to probing his mind on his thoughts and experiences in the area. Rick used a presentation made by Brian Madden and used on VMworld to start the argumentation, it was a great run through, and very entertaining. Thanx Rick.
Charles Aunger stepped up to the plate afterwards with his session on "the realities of Green IT". And this session also made alot of sense to me, Charles brought up alot of facts that were unknown to me in the whole Green IT situation. Like.. we all save power on servers, but what about the VOIP phones, Switches etc? Charles made a very entertaining and waking argument, and i will definately be looking more into the Green IT, and the things not so Green we are not talking about today
Hidden in all of this, Charles did have one other great suggestion, and he did push the marketing on this quite a bit.. Mark T. for President, and i am with Charles here.. I hope Mark T. will consider it when he finds a bit of spare time..
After the Green IT session Doug Brown and an extremely clever guy i dont know and didnt get the name of, did a live debate on Cloud Computing, is it good, is it dangerous and how do we use it in th best possible way.
To me the whole Cloud computing is still a bit wierd.. on one side it is all new, on the other side we have all been using the ‘cloud’ for years and years. Isnt the Cloud the internet, and is the whole cloudcomputing thing really just a matter of putting services into the internet in something like Internet-Hosting-Centers on a per service basis?
but all in all.. GeekSpeak was a great experience, a big thanx to the Citrix Team, especially James Rabey and ofcourse the presenters and the crowd.
Hope to attend GeekSpeak again at Synermit
I think its great that Citrix is opening up and allowing even more free coomunication at their own events. The presenters did not in any way seem coached and Mark T. was actually at GeekSpeak so that i think shows that this is a communication form they want to support.
Good work..
