Hey guys, for a while i was battling with slow logons after upgrading to Internet Explorer 7. For a while i simply disabled internet explorer branding but for some customers it seemed important with the internet explorer branded. I got an email from Martin Jensen a really competent Citrix system administrator at a customer with a nice description on how to solve the problem, and with his permission i am passing it on to you guys here
Update: Jacob Berg from Application Delivery Consulting commented below that this hotfix from MS solved the issue for him: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941158
After updating to Internet Explorer 7 it is no longer a good idea to use the Internet Explorer maintainance in Group policies under Windows Settings.
However luckily Microsoft has already released the administrative templates allowing us to do the same modifications as we used to do with the Internet explorer maintainance options.
They can be downloaded here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=11ab3e81-6462-4fda-8ee5-fcb8264c44b1
After installing this the adm templates you will find the needed settings under Administrative Templates –> Windows Components –> Internet Explorer .
It can be a bit hard to find the settings we need as they have naturally been rearranged, but the settings should be there
Thanx to Martin for supplying the information

Hi Rene,
Haven’t tried the “new” adm files, but it seems cool.
Another possibility is to implement the following hotfix:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/941158
That did the trick for me

Hi Rene,
The problem seems to be the the Group Policy “Internet Explorer Maintenance” section “Programs” where “Import the current Program Settings” causes the broadcast delay.
Setting this to “Do not customize Program Settings” solves the problem.

Hey Ole,
Thanx for sharing, any information for this issue is welcomed, it is one of the most visited pages these last couple of weeks so alot of people seem to be having the problem
anything we can do to help them out.

Hi Rene
This is a “old” known problem and the MS fix is working, BUT what is does is replacing the “iedkcs32.dll” file and there has been new IE7 fixes where this file has been replaced again, with a file which has the 20 sec. wait time again.
So remember to test the login after updating your IE7 or simply just use the ADM template
