So a couple of days ago i clearly stated that i would have loved XenApp 5.0 to be ready for 2008 R2 on the release, did a post about it here. And i wish it was like that as i have many customers whom have been waiting for the R2 release before migrating from the Windows 2003 platform.
But today i came across a post and press release on the Feature Pack 2 for XenApp 5.0 and along with that also a link for a TechPreview signup for XenApp 5.0 for Windows Server 2008 R2! top-nice:http://deliver.citrix.com/go/citrix/xar2techpreview
Along with the announcement of the upcomign techpreview which should be available “later in 2009” there were also a lot of news on the content of the Feature Pack 2.
Vinny Sosa did a great blog post on the upcoming feature: What’s in XenApp 5 Feature Pack 2 in plain English
On a headline layout the feature pack looks like this:
Dynamic Application Delivery – New options for Application Virtualization
- VM Hosted Apps
- Windows 7 and Windows Mobile Support
- Streamed application performance
Enterprise Class Management – Better management of your application virtualization solution
- Power and Capacity Management (we had a danish session on this at DKCUG – http://www.dkcug.dk )
- Provisioning Services
- Service Monitoring
- Workflow Studio 2.0
High Definition experience – Ensuring best performance and usability
- HDX MediaStream for Flash
- HDX Plug and Play Support for USB storage devices
- Profile Management
- EasyCall voice services
so it looks great, cant wait to get started on FP2
